Your Van Nuys Process Server
Van Nuys is the administrative center of the San Fernando Valley. It is where a very large share of Valley litigation is actually filed and heard, and it is surrounded by some of the densest rental housing in Los Angeles. That combination makes it one of the highest-volume process serving markets in the county — and one where knowing the courthouse and the apartment stock equally well genuinely matters.
Because we handle both service and filing, Van Nuys work often runs end to end through us: serve the tenant, prepare the proof, file at the courthouse, return the conformed copy. Clients who would otherwise coordinate a process server, a filing service, and a messenger separately use one vendor and one invoice instead.
We are a registered, bonded California process serving company and a member of the National Association of Professional Process Servers. Every completed job comes back with a court-ready proof of service — date, time, exact location, and a description of the person served — prepared to California Judicial Council standards and emailed as a PDF.
Documents We Serve in Van Nuys
If it has to be served, we serve it
Summons & Complaints
The document that starts your lawsuit. Personal, substituted, or service by publication support when the defendant cannot be found.
Evictions & Unlawful Detainer
3-day, 30-day, and 60-day notices plus unlawful detainer summons — the Valley's highest-volume category, handled on statutory clocks.
Courthouse Filing & Messenger
Physical filing at the Van Nuys courthouses, conformed copy retrieval, and same-run messenger errands so nobody from your office has to make the trip.
Subpoenas
Deposition subpoenas, records subpoenas, and trial subpoenas served on witnesses, custodians of records, and third parties.
Family Law & Divorce Papers
Divorce petitions, custody motions, and support orders — handled discreetly and professionally in situations that are rarely easy.
Restraining Orders
Domestic violence, civil harassment, and elder abuse restraining orders served promptly and carefully, with priority handling.
Writs, Levies & Garnishments
Judgment enforcement paperwork, bank levies, wage garnishments, and judgment debtor examinations.
Skip Tracing
High tenant turnover means addresses go stale fast. We run TLOxp data to confirm where someone is before we attempt the serve.
eFiling
As an official California eFiling provider, we can eFile your documents after service — one vendor, one invoice, one point of contact.
What Makes Van Nuys Different to Serve
Volume, density, and a courthouse in the middle of it
Dense multifamily housing
Large complexes with callbox entries, interior courtyards, and unit numbering that does not match what is on the lease or the public record. Confirming the correct unit before the first attempt prevents a serve on the wrong tenant, which is worse than no serve at all.
High tenant turnover
Addresses in this part of the Valley go stale quickly. A defendant listed at a Van Nuys apartment six months ago may be three complexes away, which is why skip tracing is worth running before dispatch rather than after four failed attempts.
A major court hub
Van Nuys hosts one of the Valley's busiest court complexes, which means service and filing are frequently part of the same matter. Handling both under one roof removes the handoff where deadlines usually get dropped.
Commercial and industrial corridors
The Sepulveda and Van Nuys Boulevard corridors mix auto shops, warehouses, and small businesses where the registered owner is often nowhere near the premises. Serving a business properly usually means going through its registered agent, not its counter staff.

California Service of Process Rules, in Plain English
A quick orientation for anyone handling their first case. This is general information, not legal advice — talk to an attorney about your specific situation.
You cannot serve your own papers
Under California Code of Civil Procedure § 414.10, service must be performed by someone 18 or older who is not a party to the case. If you are the plaintiff, you are disqualified. A friend or relative technically qualifies, but a registered process server produces a proof of service that is far harder for the other side to attack.
Personal service is the gold standard
Handing the documents directly to the named person (CCP § 415.10) is the cleanest and fastest-effective method. Service is complete the moment the papers are delivered. It is what we attempt first on every job.
Substituted service is the fallback
When someone cannot be personally served after reasonable diligence — courts generally expect several genuine attempts at different times — CCP § 415.20 allows the papers to be left with a competent adult at their home or usual workplace, followed by a mailed copy. Service is then deemed complete on the 10th day after mailing, so build that delay into your calendar.
Registered process servers are regulated
California registered process servers must register with the county clerk and maintain a $2,000 bond under the Business and Professions Code. That registration is what allows a server to sign proofs of service in volume and gives your filing added credibility.
Deadlines are unforgiving
California expects a summons and complaint to be served within 60 days of filing, and unlawful detainer cases move on far tighter clocks. If your deadline is close, say so when you contact us and we will prioritize the job.

Van Nuys Process Server FAQ
The questions we get asked most
About Process Serving in Van Nuys, California
Van Nuys functions as the civic and judicial center of the San Fernando Valley. Its court complex handles a very large volume of Valley litigation, and the neighborhoods around it hold some of the densest apartment housing in Los Angeles. For a process serving company that means two things at once: constant landlord-tenant work, and constant trips to the courthouse — which is precisely why service and filing are so often part of the same matter here.
The practical difficulties are density and turnover rather than access. Complexes with shared entries and inconsistent unit numbering make confirming the right door genuinely important, because serving the wrong tenant does more damage than not serving at all. High turnover means an address from even a few months ago frequently points somewhere the defendant no longer lives, which is why skip tracing before dispatch is usually cheaper than four attempts after.
Where the defendant is a business — common along the Sepulveda and Van Nuys Boulevard commercial corridors — service normally runs through the company's California registered agent rather than its storefront. See our pages on serving CT Corporation and United States Corporation Agents (LegalZoom), and our California eFiling service for attorneys and law firms. We also cover Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills.
We are registered and bonded in California, our proofs of service comply with California Code of Civil Procedure requirements, and we are members of the National Association of Professional Process Servers. Whether you are a property manager filing a stack of unlawful detainers, an attorney with a deadline tomorrow, or an individual serving divorce papers for the first time, you will get the same answer when you call: a real person, a straight quote, and papers served properly.
