One Process Server for the Whole County
Los Angeles County covers more than four thousand square miles and contains 88 incorporated cities plus large unincorporated areas — roughly ten million people, served by the largest trial court system in the United States. Most process serving companies quietly cover a slice of that and subcontract the rest to whoever answers the phone.
We cover the county directly, and we handle the parts that usually break: confirming whether an address is actually inside the city its mailing address names, identifying which judicial district a matter belongs in, and routing attempts so a single job does not become four trips across two freeways.
We are a registered, bonded California process serving company and a member of the National Association of Professional Process Servers. Every completed job comes back with a court-ready proof of service — date, time, exact location, and a description of the person served — prepared to California Judicial Council standards and emailed as a PDF. As an official California eFiling provider, we can also file the documents once service is complete.

Unincorporated areas too
Large parts of the county are unincorporated — East Los Angeles, Altadena, View Park-Windsor Hills, Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, Willowbrook, Florence-Graham, Castaic, and many more. A mailing address there often carries a nearby city's name without being inside that city, which routinely confuses both mapping software and courthouse assignment. We confirm the actual location before dispatch.

We Serve Them
A registered process server makes the attempt, varying days and times as needed. You get an update after each attempt — no silence.
You Get Your Proof
A signed, court-ready proof of service lands in your inbox as a PDF. Need it filed? Assisted eFiling is available once service is complete.
California Service of Process Rules, in Plain English
A quick orientation for anyone handling their first case. This is general information, not legal advice — talk to an attorney about your specific situation.
You cannot serve your own papers
Under California Code of Civil Procedure § 414.10, service must be performed by someone 18 or older who is not a party to the case. If you are the plaintiff, you are disqualified. A friend or relative technically qualifies, but a registered process server produces a proof of service that is far harder for the other side to attack.
Personal service is the gold standard
Handing the documents directly to the named person (CCP § 415.10) is the cleanest and fastest-effective method. Service is complete the moment the papers are delivered. It is what we attempt first on every job.
Substituted service is the fallback
When someone cannot be personally served after reasonable diligence — courts generally expect several genuine attempts at different times — CCP § 415.20 allows the papers to be left with a competent adult at their home or usual workplace, followed by a mailed copy. Service is then deemed complete on the 10th day after mailing, so build that delay into your calendar.
Registered process servers are regulated
California registered process servers must register with the county clerk and maintain a $2,000 bond under the Business and Professions Code. That registration is what allows a server to sign proofs of service in volume and gives your filing added credibility.
Deadlines are unforgiving
California expects a summons and complaint to be served within 60 days of filing, and unlawful detainer cases move on far tighter clocks. If your deadline is close, say so when you contact us and we will prioritize the job.
Courthouses Across the County
Serving is only half the job — we file, too
The Los Angeles County Superior Court is the largest trial court system in the United States, organized into judicial districts across the county. Most general civil matters are filed downtown, while limited civil, family, and unlawful detainer cases are usually heard nearer the parties. As an official California eFiling provider, we can eFile with Superior Courts throughout the state.

Los Angeles County Process Server FAQ
The questions we get asked most
About Process Serving in Los Angeles County
Los Angeles County is the most populous county in the United States, with roughly ten million residents spread across more than four thousand square miles, 88 incorporated cities, and substantial unincorporated territory. Its Superior Court is correspondingly the largest trial court system in the country. For anyone who needs papers physically delivered to a named person, that scale creates problems no amount of software solves on its own.
Three of them recur constantly. Addresses are ambiguous — a letter addressed to a city is frequently not inside that city, because unincorporated communities borrow the postal names of their neighbors. Distance is expensive — an address in Lancaster and one in Long Beach are effectively different regions, and attempts have to be batched and routed rather than dispatched one at a time. And courthouse assignment is not obvious, because which district hears a matter depends on both the case type and where the parties are.
Where a defendant is a business rather than an individual, service usually runs through the company's California agent for service of process. Two of the largest commercial registered agents maintain offices in Glendale, minutes from our base — see our pages on serving CT Corporation and United States Corporation Agents (LegalZoom). For firms handling their own filings, our California eFiling service for attorneys and law firms covers Superior Courts statewide.
For city-specific detail, see our pages for Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, Van Nuys, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills. We are registered and bonded in California, our proofs of service comply with California Code of Civil Procedure requirements, and we are members of the National Association of Professional Process Servers.
